Pen drawing for a suspended sculptural porcelain and light work, 2018

Dana close up image_edited.jpg

This drawing is for a suspended porcelain sculptural light work of approximately 150 centimetres in diameter. The design was inspired by time spent in a disused engineering workshop in Menston, West Yorkshire. The space, which was extremely cold and dark, resonated with the sound of machines running and the voices of former workers. One machine had been vandalised to reveal its inner workings and cogs and this became the basis for this piece. The finished work will be formed from several hundred lengths of hand-rolled porcelain arranged in a full circle around a specially made steel internal architecture. Illumination will come from an internal array of LED lighting.
